All the odds as Hatters travel to Bury

Paul Benson joins Alex Lawless and Luke Guttridge on the sidelines for Luton’s FA Cup second round tie with Bury at Gigg Lane.

Hatters manager John Still looks sure to juggle his pack with the busy Christmas period just around the corner and, whilst a good cup run would be a welcome bonus to the club’s coffers, back-to-back promotions must be the primary objective.

I’m sure the Shakers, seven points behind Town in League Two after losing their last four games on the bounce, would mirror those sentiments.

Town are 5/2 at BetVictor to come away from Lancashire with a win, 23/10 to take Bury back for a replay and it is 23/20 for a Bury success.

A late Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu goal meant the sides shared the points at Kenilworth Road back in August and it might be worth noting that in 13 home games so far this season, in all competitions, the Shakers’ have yet to draw a game winning nine and losing four.

The Shakers have lost back-to-back home games in the League to Newport and Dagenham & Redbridge in recent weeks, however, and the natives are becoming increasingly restless with David Flitcroft’s side who were antepost favourites for the League Two title back in the summer.

The Hatters are 3/1 at BetVictor to top the division after the comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Mansfield at Kenilworth Road last weekend and 4/9 to be promoted.

They are also 3,000/1 to lift the Trophy at Wembley in May with Bury 2,000/1 which seems an insult but is probably realistic.

Bury last won an FA Cup second round tie back in 2007 and I would be disappointed if they bucked that trend against an in-form Hatters’ side.

The 5/2 for a Luton win looks too big although the recommendation is the 6/4 for Town draw no bet.

I have seen an early quote of 14/1 for Jake Howells to score the opening goal and that might be a shade too big.
