New Town striker Ross Lafayette is more than confident he has what it takes to make the jump to League Two next season.

The 28-year-old forward scored 16 Skrill Premier goals for Welling last season, and 19 the campaign before as Wings won the Skrill South title.

He believes that an FA Cup clash against League Two Plymouth last term confirmed he had the ability to play at a higher level.

Lafayette said: “They are a strong League Two side and unfortunately we lost 3-1, but I managed to score against them which gives me a lot of confidence for next season.

“I’m really looking forward to it and it’s not just myself, it’s the whole team (stepping up) so that puts me on a level playing field.

“I think we’re definitely going to hold our own and try to push on and get as high as possible, play-offs and promotion if possible.”

Lafayette has already set himself a goals target and unlike other strikers, wasn’t afraid to make his ambitions public, while he also believes they have what it takes to mount an immediate promotion challenge.
