The 34-year-old is well placed to judge too, having gone up twice from League Two with Dagenham & Redbridge and Swindon Town.

Speaking about Town’s chances, he said: “I think we can do really well. We’ve got the players here who can push on and look to be challenging at the right end of the table.

“I’ve been lucky enough to be playing in teams in the past who’ve got promoted from this league, so I kind of know what sort of players are needed and the quality of player to do it.

“I think we’ve got that here, so as long as we can take the momentum from last season forward, we’ve got a real chance of going up again.”

Momentum has been a buzzword amongst most Town players during pre-season, after a campaign that saw Luton win 30 games out of a possible 46 to claim the title by 19 points.

Benson was no different either, while he also admitted being impressed by the Hatters’ summer activity in the transfer market.
