Town’s 1-0 defeat at Newport County on Tuesday night saw a 10 point gap open up from third-placed Wycombe who Luton face next at Kenilworth Road.

With just nine games to go, and Hatters not yet certain of a play-off place by any means, Benson said: “We’ve got to keep our eyes on the top three, first and foremost let’s aim for that.

“We can still do that, that’s still achievable, so lets set our sights on that.

“Let’s try and go for the top three, give it a real go.

“We’ve still got to play Wycombe at home, that’s a big game. It’s gone against us for the last few weeks, but that can turn around quite quickly, although we’ve certainly got to start improving individually and collectively.”

Benson himself is now back in the squad after a three-month absence due to breaking his leg against Mansfield on November 29.
