Blackett expecting another tough slog

DEFENDER Shane Blackett is expecting Town’s third Blue Square Bet Premier campaign to be just as tough as in previous years, writes Mike Simmonds.

Luton have been beaten to the Conference title by Stevenage Borough and Crawley Town in the last two seasons, before falling in the play-offs to York City and AFC Wimbledon.

This year, it looks like Fleetwood Town will be splashing the cash a la Crawley Town, while the likes of Wrexham and York City are both setting their stalls out for a title push, with relegated sides Stockport County and Lincoln City hoping to bounce back at the first opportunity.

Blackett said: “It will just be as tough. Fleetwood are spending the money, but we’ve got the players here.

“Last year we fell just short, it was only a penalty shoot-out defeat. If we can keep the nucleus of the side together, with the few additions we’ve made already, I think we’ve got a great chance, as good a chance as we’ve had the last two years.”
