Chelsea manager Frank Lampard felt his side executed their game-plan almost perfectly during today’s 3-1 FA Cup fourth round win over Luton Town at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues boss saw his team burst into a 2-0 lead by 17 minutes courtesy of England international Tammy Abraham’s quickfire double.

They were then pegged back by a goalkeeping error from £71m signing Kepa, who allowed Jordan Clark’s shot through his grasp with half an hour gone.

The Spaniard redeemed himself with a fine stop from Harry Cornick on the hour mark, as Chelsea soon regained the initiative, Abraham completing his treble with 15 minutes remaining, and they might have added another, only to see Simon Sluga save Timo Werner’s late penalty.

Lampard said: “It’s important to go through, clearly it’s a competition we've had success with in the modern era, expectations are to go through in practice, that’s not as simple as it sounds.

“Luton are a good team, a Championship team, a competitive team, good young coach, so we had to get our game right and we did.

“We got it right in pretty much every sense apart from the two sloppy moments, one to give them a goal and one to give them a chance.

“Apart from that, everything was nailed on and Tammy gets three goals which is great for him, great for us, gets his confidence up but overall the performance was really good.”
