New Luton signing Jordan Clark revealed he was blown away by boss Nathan Jones ahead of his move to Kenilworth Road last week.

The 26-year-old became Town’s first signing of the summer last Wednesday when he arrived on a free transfer from Accrington Stanley, once his contract at the Wham Stadium had expired.

Clark, who scored 29 goals in just under 200 games for the Reds, had talks with Jones before agreeing to put pen to paper and was immediately won over.

He said: “When I met him, I was like, ‘wow.’

“He blew me away with his ideas, how much information he had on me and what he wants from me and I just couldn’t believe it.

“I loved everything he said, just like myself, he’s so ambitious, wants to do well, wants to kick on and have a great season.

“I probably did my agents head in saying ‘come on, what’s happening, get it done, is it not done yet?’

“I was just patient and when I got the chance to come down here, I couldn’t get down the M1 quick enough.”

The research that Jones had done on Clark would have shown that the midfielder was fourth in the list for chances created in the top four divisions last season.

With 47 to his name, it was just behind Manchester City and Belgium star Kevin De Bruyne (54), Exeter’s Randell Williams and West Bromwich Albion’s Matheus Pereira, joint second on 48.

It’s something that Clark wants to bring to Kenilworth Road now, as he continued: “I try to be as creative as possible, try to score and assist as many as I can, try and get the fans off their seats really, make them enjoy coming to watch me play. First and foremost, I’ll give 100 per cent for the team, that’s massive here.

“The squad comes first every week and I’ll just try to score and create as many chances for the other lads as I can.”

There had been a few other potential destinations for Clark, but once he knew of Luton’s intentions, they immediately paled into insignificance.

He said: “I had a couple interested, but when my agent said there was a chance to come here, I wasn’t bothered by any other club.

“I think this suits me down to the ground perfectly.

“The way they play, the way the manager wants to kick on and he’s so ambitious and that’s exactly what I want.

“Style of play was probably the biggest factor and suits me down to the ground.”

With the Hatters returning to training on Monday, then Clark has had a brief glimpse of what life will be like under his new manager and he’s already loving it.

He added: “On the training pitch, he’s very demanding which is great.

"He’s a top coach which will improve every single player here.

"The team spirit is good, there’s a good togetherness with all the lads which is massive and all the staff as well.

“It’s looking really positive and I can’t wait for the games to start.

"I’m even just looking forward to tomorrow really, getting fit and just enjoying training again.”
