Collins happy to give Town newboy Adebayo some pointers if needed

Luton striker James Collins is happy to give new team-mate Elijah Adebayo a helping hand on the training ground if the recent acquisition should need it.

Collins, a pro of almost a decade with 500 first team appearances under his belt, is closing in on 200 goals in total, while he has also represented the Republic of Ireland at international level too.

Adebayo, 23, came through the ranks af Fulham in 2017, before like Collins, dropping down the leagues to make an impact, impressing for League Two side Walsall ahead of his move to Luton on deadline day recently.

On whether he can help impart some of his knowledge to the young forward, who made his debut from the bench during the 2-0 defeat to Cardiff on Tuesday night, Collins said: “If he asks me, I’m quite vocal anyway in and around the training ground so if he ever needs anything he knows where I am, but I’ll always try to help him on the field.”

Although Adebayo is one of Collins’ rivals for his place in the Town front-line, the striker is confident he will benefit from the extra competition.

He added: “He’s been lively, he’s a big old boy, he works hard too.

"He gets hold of it, shows some good finishes in training, he’s still a young lad, but hopefully he can come in and learn and I’m sure he’ll be a great player for this club in the future.

"That’s what you want, you want competition for your place so you don’t get too easy and you don’t get too sloppy.

“To have someone chomping at the bit like we’ve got here is only good for the squad.

“When gets his chance, I’m sure he’ll be determined to show the gaffer what he can do.”
