CONFIRMED: Drury rejoins Luton

The 30-year-old was present at the club’s first day of pre-season training this morning and has now put pen to paper.

Drury made 26 appearances for Town in his first stint back in the 2010-11 season before joining Ipswich Town for £150,000.

But he has been a long time target of Luton boss John Still and despite having two bids turned down, the Town chief has finally landed his man.

A delighted Still told the club’s official website: “We’ve had to be patient to sign Andy but now we have secured his signature I’m absolutely thrilled.

“I’ve known Andy since he was at Ebbsfleet and last season, on the night we won the league, it was Andy who I was watching at Crawley.

“I’ve always been an admirer and when I was told there might be a chance of signing him I jumped at it.

“He’s a very experienced player and who has got that extra nous too. He’s played in the Championship and in League 1 in recent seasons and I know what he’s capable of.

“I see Andy as a central midfield player but he is flexible enough to play in variety of positions and that’s always a big plus.

“When we had the conversation it was clear he was keen to come back to Kenilworth Road because he left before he could help the club to promotion.

“This year he could have stayed in League 1 but he has decided to join us again because he wants to push on – and, because he’s a good player, I am sure that will be the case.”

On his return, Drury said: “I’ve come back to Luton as a better player than when I left.

“It’s a great opportunity for me, this club might be back in the Football League now but it is still not at the level it deserves to be.”

Meanwhile, Crawley chief executive Michael Dunford told the club’s official website: “When Andy joined us a year ago on a two-year contract he insisted on a clause in his contract whereby any club prepared to meet our valuation of him they would have permission to talk to him.

“Luton have met that valuation and Andy has decided to go back there.

“What I will stress is that the money received will all go back into strengthening the squad. John Gregory and the board are working hard on bringing in further new faces to add to the nine we have already signed this summer.

“In the meantime, we wish Andy all the best and thank him for his services to the club.”
