Attacker Harry Cornick is confident the hard work will start to pay off soon as he looks to break his duck for Luton this season.

The forward has been goalless from his opening 12 games so far, three behind the tally he had mustered at the same stage last term.

Cornick had been one of the stand-out players for the Hatters during their tough baptism to the Championship, looking a real threat under previous boss Graeme Jones, and also when current manager Nathan Jones returned, going on to finish the campaign with nine goals, the best haul of his career to date.

He has not quite hit those heights just yet this term, but the former Bournemouth winger believes those fortunes are on the brink of changing, saying: “I want to do better, I think personally I can do a lot better for the team as well.

“My performances have been okay at times, but I’ve always wanted to improve, I want to get better and if I can to help the team and help myself, then great.

“Some games have been a bit below par for me, it’s been a strange start to the season.

“I’ve put a bit of pressure on myself to replicate the form I was in last year, but I’ll just carry on the way I’m playing, trying to focus on the team performance, rather than my own at times.

“I think my own form and figures will come in time, I’ve just got to keep persevering with it.”

On why he hasn’t had the number of opportunities to get off the mark fall this way this term, Cornick continued: “I think we haven’t scored as many goals and we haven’t created as many chances, but we’ve been quite tight at the back.

“We’ve been better in possession this year than we were last year.

“We defended and counter attacked which probably suited my style of play more, playing on the counter with my pace.

“This year we’ve dominated more games and been more on the ball, tried to break teams down more.”

Cornick was hindered by a slight groin injury recently as well which saw him miss four Championship matches.

He has returned to start the last four games though and is ready to go for the home clash with Norwich this evening.

The forward added: “I’m back fit now, that was just an accumulation of too many games and too much work.

“I just needed to de-load for a week or so on my groins so they’re all good and I’m good to go, so I can’t wait for a first goal this year."
