The 22-year-old netted Town’s League Two opener at Carlisle United on Saturday, converting Paul Benson’s perfect cross from close range.

On his chances of taking over the mantle of Gray, Cullen said: “I’d like to think so.

“Last season it was hard for me to get into the team, Benno (Paul Benson) and Andre were scoring goals.

“But when I played I thought I did a good job and hopefully this season I’ll get a bit of a run in the team. I fancy myself to score in every game.”

Cullen had been in prolific form during pre-season with four goals and carried that run into League Two.

He started alongside Benson, although had to occupy a wider role and did his defensive duties admirably, something he is happy to do for the team.
