Town deadline day addition Elijah Adebayo is confident he has what it takes to be a hit at Championship level after making his move to Kenilworth Road this week.

The 23-year-old came through the ranks at Fulham, but left Craven Cottage without ever making a first team appearance for the Cottagers.

He went on loan to Cheltenham in January 2018 and then Swindon Town the following season, before a move to Walsall, where he managed eight goals last term.

Adebayo has been in excellent form for the Saddlers this term, netting 10 times in 28 matches, but despite having never played in the second tier, the forward believes he can cope, saying: “Yes, definitely, it’s never going to be easy, no level of football is ever easy.

“But I’m determined to learn and improve, add aspects to my game and improve on the things I have got, make them even better, and then just kick on and try and play as many games as possible.

“I want to ease my way in and then make a real statement to show the gaffer I can play at this level and I’m ready to play at this level.

"It's a great opportunity to showcase my ability and show people that I can play at this level and hold my own at this level.

"I’m sure the boys will help me get through it as well, there is going to be many ups and downs so I've just got to make sure there are more ups than downs!"

When asked what his main attributes were as a striker, Adebayo continued: “I can run in behind, I can play to feet, I do like to link up play with the midfielders, wingers, and I’m used to playing with inverted wingers.

“So I can come and play, link up, while running in behind is a big strength of mine, holding the ball up, bringing others into play.

“Then I’ve had to really work on my movement this year and getting in and around the box.

“I feel like that’s something that’s got better, but it’s something I need to improve on definitely and more headed goals, it’s an area I want to improve on as well.”

With a desire to work on his aerial ability, Adebayo couldn't ask for a better teacher with Town assistant Mick Harford a master of the art during his playing career.

On getting some tips from the Luton legend, Hatters' latest recruit said: "I’m going to make sure I soak up as much as I can, take little bits from the coaching staff, from the experienced boys from the group and just ask as many questions as I can.

"Try and improve my game as much as I can.

"They’ve been great too, the lads have been very welcoming, very easy to get on with.

"It's a good group of lads in and around, it is a very good environment to be in and I’m just happy to be here."
