Drury finally completes move to Ipswich

Hatters winger leaves on transfer deadline day

HATTERS winger Andy Drury has finally completed his protracted move to Championship side Ipswich Town on transfer deadline day.

The deal came as no surprise as Drury himself confirmed after the 1-0 victory over Grimsby last Tuesday that it was likely to be his last game for the club as the Tractor Boys activated the £150,000 release clause in his contract.

The 27-year-old has been Town’s standout player this season after joining from Stevenage, scoring eight goals in 26 appearances, and has wowed the Kenilworth Road faithful with his rampaging runs from midfield.

Manager director Gary Sweet told the club’s official website: “Even though his services have been rather short-lived as a Hatter, ‘Dukes’ has endeared himself to the Luton faithful with his exceptional skills.

“Such talent appearing in the, so-called, non-league is simply unimaginable and once Andy found a club that showcased his creativity a move to the Championship was inevitable.”

Prior to the move, Town manager Richard Money, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Darlington, added: “It looks as though despite our best efforts he will be signing for Ipswich later today.

“I think he is pretty much gone through that process over the weekend and he has trained there today and we expect that to go through this afternoon.”
