Drury has no sympathy for Rovers

Play to the whistle warns Luton winger

SKILFUL winger Andy Drury had no sympathy for Forest Green Rovers after his controversial opener set the Hatters on their way to a 6-1 win on Tuesday night, writes Mark Wood.

Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer was flagged offside in the build-up only for the referee to overrule his assistant’s decision.

The summer signing from Stevenage, pictured, said: “I think they all stopped. I don’t know why they stopped.

“Barnesy was coming back holding his hands up and Freddie was running through.

“They just stopped with their hands up so I have no sympathy at all.

“I just continued my run but they shouldn’t have stopped.”

Left-back Freddie Murray was the man paying the most attention to set Town’s winger up.

He said: “Barnesy is clever in his actions and hasn’t intended to go for the ball. I chanced my arm and Dukes is coming in at the back.

“You have to play to the whistle. We had one this season where we were expecting the linesman to flag and he didn’t.

“I think 75 per cent of goals come from crosses.

“It’s about putting it in the right places. We get a lot of goals from crosses.”

Manager Richard Money echoed his player’s thoughts and praised the decision, adding: “It was all credit to the officials. You often see them chalked off but they were 100 per cent right.

“We are very bright at that moment.

“From our point of view you don’t stop until the whistle is blown. The referee did very well and knew it was a goal. It gave us a foothold in the game.”
