Town were down to the bare bones during their 1-0 win over Cambridge United on Saturday, with Still admitting he had struggled to pick a team.

But winger Shaun Whalley played 90 minutes and scored in the Final Third Development League 2-2 draw against Portsmouth on Tuesday, while new signing Nathan Doyle completed 70 minutes.

Still said: “Shaun has been on the bench recently, but needed a game first. He has got 90 minutes, so will come into contention now.

“We wanted Nathan to get an hour, and he had a touch more than that. So with some more training on Thursday and Friday, he’ll be further down the line too.

“Paul Benson and Jonathan Smith have trained too, so they have a chance for Saturday.”

However, Still will be without a number of first-team players once more, with Paul Connolly, Luke Rooney, Jake Howells and Curtley Williams expected to miss out.
