Former Luton youngster Akin Famewo completed a season-long loan move to League One Charlton Athletic from Town's Championship rivals Norwich City last week.

The 21-year-old became the second signing of the Thomas Sandgaard era, once the Danish-American business completed his takeover of the Addicks.

Famewo played 13 games for the Hatters after coming through the ranks at Kenilworth Road, before joining the Canaries in January 2019 and has since signed a long-term deal at Carrow Road, making his Premier League debut last term.

Speaking to the Charlton official website, he said: "I’m buzzing to be here, delighted to be part of the Addicks and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do this season.

"I’m looking forward to getting in and meeting everyone."

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer was happy with his new acquisition too, saying: “He’s a young lad but he’s very, very good.

"He’s good in possession, Akin is someone who naturally can play on that (left) side, who is confident, who can step out and he can play.

"He can also play left back or left of a three – there is a lot of versatility with him, so he’s another good addition.

"Norwich speak very, very highly of him. We’re lucky to have been able to get a player like him.”

Famewo played 62 minutes on his Charlton debut at the weekend, Bowyer's side beaten 2-0 at Lincoln City.
