Former Luton striker Jayden Stockley, now with Preston North End, was one of 10 to return positive Covid-19 tests across eight Championship clubs in the latest round of testing.

A total of 1,058 tests were carried out in Championship clubs last Thursday and Friday, with Middlesbrough and Cardiff both confirming one positive test as well.

Stockley, 26, who scored three goals in 13 games the Hatters during a loan spell in the 2014-15 season, was described by his club as "asymptomatic and feeling no ill effects" after testing negative in two previous tests.

He will now self-isolate at home and provided no further symptoms develop, will, in line with medical protocols, return to training with his team-mates after his isolation.

Stockley said: "It came as a complete shock. I got a call from the doctor when I came back from training.

"I felt brilliant in training, put a good session in and his number came up.

"We were aware we would get a call if our test was positive and I was thinking 'no, surely not', but he told me and it was a surreal moment.

"You feel like you are untouchable and you are going to ride through it."

Blackburn captain Elliott Bennett and two unnamed Fulham players tested positive for coronavirus in the previous round of testing in the Championship.

Two people at Hull City were also confirmed to have the virus after the first round of testing, as Luton have returned negative tests in all of their rounds so far.
