Frustrated Justham aware he needs to bide his time

The 25-year-old was back between the posts for Town’s 2-1 win at Crawley on Saturday, his first outing since August 29.

Then, Luton had lost at home to Peterborough, but with the side travelling to Cambridge, Justham lost his place to Mark Tyler after his partner gave birth in the build up and he has not regained it since.

He said: “It was lovely to get a start, it’s been frustrating waiting, but I enjoyed coming in and glad we’re on the right end of a 90th minute winner.

“It’s very, very frustrating, especially when I felt personally I was going quite well.

“But I am the number two goalkeeper at the moment and Tyles is playing well, so I can’t grumble too much.

“The gaffer said I did well, so I’m glad when I get a chance I can try and prove that I’m still capable of being number one.”

Tyler has openly admitted that the progress of Justham has made him up his game immeasurably this season and the former East Thurrock keeper felt that was the case.

He continued: “I think the competition I’m giving him, without being big headed, is making him better as well.

“It’s keeping him on his toes and it’s only good for the club. The club must be happy with that as well, but it would be nice to get some more playing time.”

On his decision to play Justham, Still said: “It’s really weird, if Elliot doesnt get injured in training, he might be in, because he was in control of the position at the time.

“But Mark’s come in and done really, really well. It’s been tough on Elliot, but we rate Elliot so highly, we really do, it was good for him to get a bit of game time, I was really pleased with that.”

With Hatters at home to Barnet in the league on Saturday, Justham isn’t expecting to retain the gloves, or to see Tyler call time on his career any time soon.

He added: “I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere soon!

“I don’t know if that’s going to happen (play against Barnet). I’d be delighted if it did, but again Tyles as is playing well. Like I say, it’s frustrating, very frustrating as some people can tell, but it is what it is.

“I’ve just got to bide my time and keep training hard.”
