Guttridge, who spent 18 months with the Cobblers, rejoiced in front of the 1,018 travelling fans after his last-minute match-winner, but admitted it was born out of his own personal frustrations after being left out of the side recently.

He said: “I’m delighted to be able to get a goal, mixed emotions with my celebrations though.

“I know I’m going to get a lot of stick for it, not that the Northampton fans will really care at all, it wasn’t anything personal against them.

“It was just personally it’s been a very tough couple of months. Even when I was playing, it’s been a hard season for me, so it was just the euphoria of actually grabbing the winner.

“I told myself don’t celebrate but just had so much frustration in my body that I just had to let it out. So I do sincerely apologise, but I play for Luton now not Northampton.”
