Guttridge prepared to go out in a ‘blaze of glory

The 32-year-old made his return from a long-standing metatarsal problem that threatened to curtail his career early last week.

He completed a second 90 minutes for Luton against Accrington on Saturday, almost a year to the day from when he fractured his metatarsal against Alfreton Town that ended his season.

Although there is a chance he could re-injure his foot, Guttridge said: “I’d rather go in a blaze of glory than with a whimper, so I’m not looking at it any different.

“If it goes, it goes, that’s football, that’s life, I can’t do anything about it.

“I’ve always enjoyed my football, no more now than I ever had before.

“The more I can play, brilliant, and I still think I’ve got a few years left in me.”

Guttridge is aware though that he needs to manage his injury, particularly due to the severity of its nature, while the midfielder has turned to a new shock treatment to combat the problem and is currently reaping the benefits.
