Guttridge relishing Bury trip

Town travel to sixth-placed Bury this evening, who are still serious contenders for the top three, as victory would put them level on points with Luton.

That might work in Hatters’ favour though as Guttridge: “I think it’s going to help us, playing teams in the mix, in and around us.

“If we play Bury, it might be bit more of an open game, they might come and attack us and try and beat us, so it might help us.

“Whereas if we’re going to Wimbledon, Mansfield, they can try and frustrate us which is an art in itself, we have to overcome that like we did (against Accrington).”

The Shakers are coming into form at just the right time, having won 2-0 at Plymouth on Saturday and taken 11 points from 15 with boss David Flitcroft nominated for the manager of the month award.

Striker Jayden Stockley is aware just how difficult the challenge will be, as he said: “You know what you’re going to get with Bury, especially going up there on a Tuesday night. We need to roll our sleeves up and put in a real tough performance.”

Results went Hatters’ way on Saturday as both Burton and Shrewsbury suffered rare home defeats, while Wycombe were held by Stevenage.

Although happy to have taken advantage by beating Accrington, Guttridge knows Town need to take care of their side of things first.

He added: “We’re delighted other teams are helping us out, but first and foremost, if we don’t win our games, it’s irrelevant.

“Other teams could win or lose 10-0, we have to win our games, that’s what we’ve done and if others slip up, that’s briliiant.

“Other teams can help us out, as I think the likes of Northampton, Tranmere, Oxford and Wimbledon will cause a lot of upsets as they’re all difficult games.”
