Defender Luke Wilkinson was quick to hail Hatters’ travelling army of supporters this season after 1,425 went to Cambridge on Saturday, saying: “We’ve started slower than we wanted to, but they’ve been absolutely fantastic, filling the away end.

“I know Cambridge is a local-ish game, but even if we’re further away, they’d have probably taken over 1,000.

“They’ve stuck with us and hopefully we can repay them with some more victories soon.”
