Luton boss Nathan Jones has revealed it was Manchester City and Luke Bolton’s decision for the youngster to return to the Etihad Stadium last week.

With the loan deadline up to keep players on Friday, Jones managed to retain the services of Cameron Carter-Vickers, Izzy Brown and James Bree for the run-in, Eunan O’Kane staying put for treatment too.

However, Bolton, 20, who made 28 appearances for the Hatters this season, headed back to his parent club, despite Jones admitting he had wanted to keep him.

He said: “That was his choice, that was his and Man City’s choice, not mine.

“I wanted to keep everyone together, galvanise them, I used him against Leeds and then he was gone the next day, that wasn't my choice.

"Luke wanted to go, so did Man City want to recall him, so we were very respectful of that.

"It’s their prerogative to be able to do that, but from our point of view, we were quite prepared to keep him.”

With Bolton gone, January signing Peter Kioso was on the bench for the 1-1 draw with Barnsley on Tuesday night, but the Town chief isn't in a position to just hand him a debut with the club still fighting for their Championship lives.

He added: "Lets see, we cant second guess and have a look at people, we have to win games, that's what we have to do.

"So whatever we need to do, that's what we'll try first, and if that's successful then people have plenty of time.

"I'm not looking to give people minutes, I'm looking to win the next game that's in front of me, that's all.”
