Hatters boss weighs up making changes for Swindon

Town enjoyed an excellent opening day win over Carlisle at the weekend, but Still had hinted previously that he might switch things around for the visit of the Robins.

At today’s press conference, the boss said: “If I change the system then I will have a little change. We’ve done some work today, I’ll mull it over overnight and we’ll decide tomorrow.”

Still isn’t expecting wholesale changes from opponents Swindon either as Mark Cooper’s side, who finished eighth in League One last year, began their campaign with a 3-1 victory against Scunthorpe on Saturday.

He continued: “We watched them Saturday and have got a report on them.

“They had a good year last, so they’ll be hopeful this year. It will be a really, really tough game, but I don’t see them making many changes.

“I think possibly in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy people will change more than this competition.

“I don’t envisage them making many alterations and whatever we do, we won’t make many.”

Meanwhile, Still isn’t expecting Alex Lawless, Jonathan Smith or Shaun Whalley to be available for selection, while won’t push Luke Guttridge back too early.

He added: “Gutts was on the bench Saturday, we haven’t got to push him, we can keep building up his training levels.

“Once we feel that he’s bang, bang on, I’m sure that we’ll find a way to get him in the team.

“Alex Lawless has a slight hamstring problem. He’s as fit as can be, hasn’t missed any training and will probably train later on this week.

“He’ll probably be available for Saturday, whether we use him Saturday, I don’t know.

“Jonathan Smith, his leg is fine, you get these things when you have a long injury, you get referral injuries.

“Once again, there’s no rush to do that, we’ve just got to let it follow its course.

“He’s done all the pre-season training as well so once he comes back, he’s not going to be a mile behind.

“Shaun Whalley’s got a knock on his big toe and it’s really, really sore.

“We’ve been in two minds whether to give him some days off or send him back home to his mum for a few days so he can put his feet up and his mum can look after him.

“We’ve had an x-ray and there was nothing on that, so I don’t think there’s anything sinister, just perhaps need a little rest.”
