Luton boss Nathan Jones will wait until the transfer window shuts tomorrow evening before beginning talks with the club’s players who are in the final year of their contracts.

First-teamers such as James Collins, Sonny Bradley, Matty Pearson and Martin Cranie are all expected to be free agents in the summer, while a whole host of others in the squad are also into their last 12 months.

During his first spell, Jones very rarely let any player run down their contract if he wanted to keep them, with the likes of James Justin and Danny Hylton both penning new deals well ahead of their expiry dates.

He expects that to continue this term, saying: "Of course, we never want to leave ourselves exposed.

"There’s another window to negotiate in terms of the international one and this (current transfer window) now, so when they’re all shut, we can evaluate everything moving forward.

"We never really leave ourselves exposed.

"The current climate restricts us in doing certain things as we don’t know what’s going to be announced, or what’s going to happen in football, in Britain, in the world, or anything.

"This would have probably been doing a lot earlier if Covid hadn't been around, but Covid has affected absolutely everything and it’s affected that process as well.”
