Hatters bring in Hammers striker on loan

The 20-year-old who is the son of former England midfielder Rob, progressed through the youth ranks at Upton Park, signing a professional contract in August 2012 and made his Premier League debut the following year against Manchester United.

Lee had a spell at Colchester United last season, scoring once in four games, and went to Southend United this year, but suffered a torn hamstring in training and left without playing a match.

Now fit, Lee has been on the bench for the Hammers last three games and hopes to be a regular scorer for Luton during his loan stint.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said: “I’ve come here to score goals, that’s what the manager’s asked me here to do, and hopefully I can keep doing what I’ve been doing throughout my career.

“I’ve heard all about the fans and I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere at Kenilworth Road.”

Boss John Still said: “I’ve known Elliot for a long while, his brother was with me at Dagenham and Redbridge and I know his dad Rob, who was an excellent player.

“They’re local to me so we’ve had our eye on him for a while.

“He’s a fox in the box, with a good goal scoring record so we’re hoping he’ll bring more goals to the team.

“Elliot’s been on the bench quite a few times at West Ham, as well as against Manchester United, so he’s well thought of there and we’re happy to have him here at Luton.”

On whether his new signing might start this weekend at AFC Wimbledon, Still added: “It’s probably a bit too soon. He might be on the bench on Saturday, but he’ll get a full week’s training next week so we’ll see what happens then.”
