Luton chief executive Gary Sweet has confirmed he has taken a pay cut to play his part in helping the Hatters survive the current coronavirus pandemic.

With Town’s income revenues hit severely by the football season being postponed indefinitely, then Sweet took the step to try and ease the burden on the club’s finances.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday afternoon, he said: “Yes I have taken a cut, last month.

“I was the first person to do it, I think it’s really important and important that I’m the one who takes the cut earliest and the largest.

"So I did that quite a while ago.”

When asked if the likes of Town manager Graeme Jones and his staff had or would follow suit, Sweet continued: “I don’t want to discuss individual details and contracts.

“If any of those people wanted to make comments themselves, then by all means they can do that, but it’s not my job.

"Personal contracts are personal and we’ve always said that at Luton Town, unless it’s a player and it needs to be aired for some reasons, then we would discuss it.”
