Hatters chief wary of the firepower QPR possess after Austin joins from Baggies

Luton boss Nathan Jones knows his side are coming up against a team with real firepower this evening when the welcome QPR to Kenilworth Road.

The R's brought in striker Charlie Austin from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, the experienced forward signing on loan until the end of the season.

Mark Warburton's side impressed on their visit to Bedfordshire last term, picking up a 1-1 draw, with winger Bright Osayi-Samuel in particular impressing, as did midfielder Eberechi Eze, who has since gone to the Premier League, joining Crystal Palace in a big money move.

Jones said: "They have got a very strong side and they have real firepower.

"You look at the players they have and to be able to have the scope to bring in a player of Charlie Austin, shows they’re still a big club.

"Charlie Austin doesn’t come cheap and I think they have signed three strikers this year, brought two (Macauley Bonne and Albert Adomah), signed one on loan so they’re a dangerous side.

"We’re going to have to be right at it if we’re going to get anything and we know they’re a dangerous side regardless of anything, so it will be a real tough game.

"They have only lost Eze so they’re still the same potent side they were.

"The Championship, almost every side has got real, real talent and threats in their side and QPR are no different."

Although QPR have kept hold of a number of their squad from last season, they have made a poor start to proceedings, sitting in 20th place, with just four wins, and without a victory since November 24, 2020.

When asked if he was surprised by the Superhoops disappointing form, Jones continued: "That is not for me to comment.

"In terms of that, the Championship is a very difficult league to be in and week-in, week-out.

"The margins are so small, some days you get what you deserve, some days you don’t.

"We think we’re not in the exact position we should be, we think we should be slightly higher with the points total but everyone has their own opinion in terms of that.

"I’m not going to comment on QPR, I’m only concerned with us.

"Mark is a terrific coach, a terrific manager, a really nice guy so I hope he does well apart from the twice we play them."
