Cohen, a midfielder by trade, announced his retirement from football in 2018 after a succession of injuries, ending a career at the City Ground that saw him play over 300 times.

He had starting out in West Ham's academy, before moving permanently to Yeovil in 2006 following a successful loan spell, where he played alongside Luton manager Nathan Jones.

Cohen departed in 2007 to join Forest, spending over a decade as a player with the Reds, retiring in April 2018, when he was named Academy technical coach, promoted to the role of U23s coach in January of this year.

Luton boss Nathan Jones said of the appointment : “Chris is someone I’ve known for a long time.

"I played with Chris, and we were very close friends, but I followed his career closely.

“Then when I left my previous employment, I actually was looking to freshen my staff up in certain areas and I did a lot of research on up and coming coaches, coaches who would really fit in with me and Chris was one of those.

"So when Gary (Sweet, chief executive) gave me the nod and said I could bring someone in, then Chris was the one for me, so I’m delighted.

“He started over the weekend in terms of being around the environment and seeing it, and today he’s officially started on the grass.”
