Luton Town duo Joe Morrell and Tom Lockyer have been called up to the Wales squad for their 2022 World Cup qualifiers next week.

Although Lockyer has missed Town's last six games with an ankle injury, he has still been named in the squad by assistant Rob Page, who will continue to deputise for manager Ryan Giggs, supported by Albert Stuivenberg.

A lack of match action hasn't counted against Morrell either, the midfielder, with 12 caps to his name, starting just two Championship games since the turn of the year.

Ex-Luton loanee Rhys Norrington-Davies is also in the squad of 31, including Spurs' on-loan attacker Gareth Bale, as speaking to the Wales' official website about the fact that some of the players, like Morrell, haven't been regular starters, Page said: "You want your best players and all your players playing competitive football in an ideal world, it helps your cause of course it does, they come in and they're game ready.

"It does make your job a little bit harder if they're not playing minutes, but you're not in control of that, that's up to the club and the managers they're with.

"We can't control that, we'll have a look at them when they're in camp and then make decisions from there."

Wales head to Belgium on Wednesday, March 24, before hosting Mexico in a friendly on Saturday, March 27.

They then entertain Czech Republic in another World Cup qualifier on Tuesday, March 30.

Town keeper Simon Sluga was called up to the Croatia squad last week for their matches with Slovenia, Cyprus and Malta.
