Hatters lose ground in title race

HATTERS slipped further behind in the race for the Blue Square Bet Premier title after both AFC Wimbledon and Crawley Town won on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

With Town in FA Trophy action, Dons recovered from their home defeat to Wrexham on Tuesday night to ease past Altrincham 4-1 thanks to Danny Kedwell’s hat-trick.

The victory saw Wimbledon move 12 points clear of fourth-placed Luton, although Richard Money’s side do have five games in hand and still hold a superior goal difference.

Crawley left it late once more, as skipper Pablo Mills scored for the second successive match to earn the Red Devils a 3-2 triumph over Barrow.

Steve Evans’ side are now nine points clear of Hatters, and have played the same amount of games.

Wrexham remained third despite a 1-0 loss at Kidderminster, who climbed into the play-off places as a result at the expense of Fleetwood Town who were beaten 1-0 by rock bottom Eastbourne Borough.

Town are back in Blue Square Bet Premier action on Tuesday night when they visit Forest Green Rovers, while Wimbledon travel to Hayes & Yeading and Crawley host Mansfield.
