Luton midfielder Jordan Clark labelled his afternoon as 'eventful' after scoring against Premier League Chelsea in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge yesterday, while also giving away the first penalty of his nine-year professional career.

The 27-year-old was back in the Hatters side for their FA Cup fourth round clash against the eight-time winners, with Town soon trailing 2-0 during what turned out to be Frank Lampard’s last match in charge.

It looked like it was going to be a tough 90 minutes for those of a Luton persuasion, but Clark then popped up in the box to fire James Bree’s cross goalwards, as his effort somehow went through £71m signing Kepa to halve the deficit.

Buoyed by the goal, Luton were then always in the game up until the point Tammy Abraham completed his treble with 15 minutes to go, and might have had a fourth, Clark bringing down German international Timo Werner for a penalty that Simon Sluga saved.

Reflecting on his 90 minutes, Clark said: “It was an eventful afternoon for me wasn’t it, scoring and giving a pen away.

"I’ve just crept into the box, Breesy’s done a great cut-back and I’ve managed to get a good contract on it which is the main thing.

“Then luckily it’s squirmed its way into the net which we needed I think because they had a bit of possession and had the two goals.

"It gave us a bit of lifeline, a bit of confidence as we were doing okay, we were playing well, but it just gives you that bit of confidence to kick on a little bit and push on for an equaliser.

“I'll definitely watch it a few times though and I’m buzzing to be fair, but gutted I gave away the penalty.”

Clark's indiscretion came with five minutes to go as a lightning quick Chelsea break saw Luton sliced open, with Werner advancing beyond the defence, brought down by the sliding summer signing for a clear penalty.

Werner stepped up himself only to see his attempt batted away by Sluga, as the former Accrington player continued: “I've got back and I thought I was going to nick the ball off him, but they're so sharp and quick and he's just touched it away from me and I've clipped his heels.

"I think it's the first pen I’ve ever given away which I'm gutted about, but Slugs saved my blushes a little bit with the pen save.

"It's disappointing to lose, but we've just got to go again next week now, focus on the league and go into that.”

Sluga was Town's star man on the day, as before the penalty stop, he had also prevented Christian Pulisic's close range shot hitting the net, denying the USA international in the first half as well.

Clark added: "He saved my blushes and to be fair he was brilliant.

"He made three or four world class saves, he’s a top, top keeper.

"He did keep us in it with a couple of good saves, so he got us out of the mire a little bit today.”
