Hatters rated v Crawley

Alex Lacey: 6 - Struggled to cope with Crawley’s attacking play, especially when Town switched to three at the back in the second half.

Steve McNulty: 7 - Luton’s best defender on the night. Crucial block to stop a goal-bound effort in the first half.

Luke Wilkinson: 6 - At times looked vulnerable against the pace of Crawley’s attack and didn’t seem as assured as in previous matches, although remained a threat from attacking set-pieces.

Scott Griffiths: 6 - Was caught out of position on a couple of occasions in the first half before being taken off at half-time – 6

Nathan Doyle: 5.5 - Sometimes left the defence exposed, allowing Crawley to run at the back four, but did make one crucial goal-line clearance. Also seemed to tire as the game wore on and twice shot miles over.

Jonathan Smith: 7.5 - Luton’s best player before being taken off at half-time. Full of running, tackling and eye-catching passing. Almost put Guttridge through on goal with a delightful over-the-top through ball.

Luke Guttridge: 7.5 - Often found himself in good positions in the first half with little end product, but improved after the break and was desperately unlucky not to score when his 25-yard thunderbolt cannoned off the underside of the crossbar.

Jake Howells: 6 - Full of endeavour and running with little end product.

Alex Wall: 6 - Went close with a long-range effort in the first half but was taken off on the hour-mark after a largely quiet game.

Paul Benson: 5.5 - Struggled to have much of an impact on the match and caused the Crawley defence little trouble.

Alex Lawless (SUB): 6 - On at half-time. Was a threat down the right but, like many of his team-mates, failed to find the crucial end product.

Matt Robinson (SUB): 6.5 - Full of running and got himself about the pitch after coming on at the break – 6.5

Charlie Walker (SUB): 7.5 - On after an hour and made an instant impact when his superb lob struck the woodwork with his first touch. Seemed to rejuvenate Luton, looked sharp and lively, held the ball up well and brought others into play. Town’s brightest spark when he came on and was handful for the Crawley defence.
