Hatters rated v Exeter City

Mark Tyler: 7.5 - Made a brilliant stop in the first half with the scores goalless and also stood up well to deny Clinton Morrison before Benson’s last-gasp winner.

Sean Long: 7 - Defended valiantly throughout and his eagerness to get forward in support of Mackail-Smith proved vital in winning the penalty and then crossing for Green’s volley.

Jake Howells: 7.5 - Out of the wilderness and back in the starting line-up, but looked like he had never been away. Highly competent display as he made a number of fine clearances and always confident in possession too.

Scott Cuthbert (STAR MAN): 8 - A real captain’s performance from Cuthbert as he appeared back to the player who started the season for Luton. Always in the right position to make a number of vital interventions when the ball was frequently sent into the penalty area.

Magnus Okuonghae: 7 - Centre half impressed defensively after finding it tough last time out against Northampton. Won his headers and took up some good positions too. Promising signs.

Alex Lawless: 6 - Another game, another position for Lawless who found himself as a holding midfielder this time out. Neither he or Lee could really ever establish a strong enough foothold in the game though.

Olly Lee: 6 - Found Exeter’s midfield difficult to get on top of as Hatters at times didn’t make the most of the possession they had. Good shift though and his distribution helped in that final 10 minutes.

Danny Green: 6.5 - Great technique to volley in Long’s deep cross for Luton’s second. Was on the periphery for long stages though though with Exeter bossing possession and needs to work on his tackling too.

Cameron McGeehan: 7 - Back in the side and in his rightful central position as he offered good support for Benson and made some trademark breaks into the box. Cool penalty took him to nine for the season.

Craig Mackail-Smith: 6 - Out on the wing and willingly covered plenty of ground once more but never quite looked fully at home in his wider role.

Paul Benson: 7.5 - Had to work manfully as the sole striker on a heavy pitch, but his determination to ensure Hatters came away with a much-needed victory was there for all to see.

Scott Griffiths (SUB): 5.5 - Came on when Luton starting to be put under the cosh and a few iffy clearances didn’t help alleviate the pressure.

Josh McQuoid (SUB): 6 - Struggled to really get into the game after his late introduction bar a powerful counter attack move where he teed up Marriott.

Jack Marriott (SUB): 7 - Lively 10 minutes from the sub as he gave Hatters another outlet going forward. One wonderful burst, followed by a glorious chance and then set up Town’s winner.
