The 24-year-old, who joined the Hatters last term from Maidstone United, has had a frustrating season with injury, but still managed to net five goals in 13 appearances, as he was the club’s second top scorer.

Rooney recently underwent a hernia operation though and hadn’t featured for the first team since the 0-0 draw with Shrewsbury on January 8.

He played 19 times in total for the Hatters as boss John Still told the club’s official website: “Luke hasn’t featured so much recently after coming back to fitness following a hernia operation, so with that in mind we came to a decision to allow him to pursue a club elsewhere.

“Luke did a good job for us, especially early in the season, which helped us pick up form on our return to the Football League – and for that we are grateful.

“I wish him all the best of luck.”
