Hatters sell Angol to Peterborough

The 20-year-old forward was snapped up by Luton last summer after leaving Wycombe Wanderers and went on loan to Boreham Wood, where he finished as the Conference South top scorer and was named Young Player of the Year accolade at the National Game Awards

Hatters offered Angol a new deal to stay at Kenilworth Road, but he turned it down in favour of a move elsewhere and after failing to return to pre-season training, has now joined Peterborough.

Speaking to the Posh official website, Angol said: “It has been a tough few weeks mentally, but I am really happy that everything has been sorted and I am here.

“There has been interest from other clubs, but once I spoke to the manager, I knew that I wanted to sign for Peterborough.

“The club has a great history with strikers scoring goals and hopefully I can follow in their footsteps.

“Dwight Gayle actually followed a similar path to me, he left a Premier League club, went out on-loan to a non-league clubs and scored goals and obviously John Still was the manager at the time.

“I like to score goals, but I like to entertain as well and create goals. I hope that I can hit the ground running and score in my first pre-season game.”

Meanwhile, Peterborough boss Dave Robertson revealed that the club had seen off competition from Premier League and Championship clubs for the services of the striker, who didn’t make a first team appeareance for Luton.

He added: “Lee is an exciting young forward who scored a hatful of goals for Boreham Wood last season.

“I have spent some time with him and it is obvious that he is hungry and wants to develop as a striker.

“We have beaten off other clubs from the Premier League and the Championship to sign him and I believe he will provide competition for places and make a real impression.”
