Hatters sign AFC Bournemouth striker McQuoid

The 25-year-old left the Premier League bound Cherries when his contract expired at the end of the season and has penned a three year deal at Kenilworth Road.

McQuoid spent last season on loan at Coventry City in League One, scoring five times in 19 games, but began his career at Dean Court before moving to Millwall for £500,000 in 2011.

He was loaned to Burnley and then rejoined Bournemouth once more, helping the Cherries win promotion to League One in 2012-13, playing 39 times.

The last two campaigns has seen McQuoid loaned to Peterborough and Coventry as he scored for Posh in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final, netting the first goal in a 3-1 victory over Chesterfield.

He has also been capped five times by Northern Ireland and on his latest acquisition, Town boss John Still told the club’s official website: “Josh is a very good player; experienced but a good age, too.

“He’s a busy player, a buzzy one – he can play down the middle as a two or in a three – and he’s versatile, can score and can create goals. I think his all-round play is first-class.

“With Bournemouth’s rise to the Premier League I think he feels as though he’s got to play catch-up with his career again. I sense that he’s hungry to resume his career and we’re delighted to have secured his future.”

McQuoid added: “The size of the club and the support was a major factor in signing but I want to achieve something here.

“I could tell from the first meeting with the manager that this was a club that wanted to go places and I didn’t want to sign for a mediocre club happy just to sit in the middle of the league.

“I’ve come here to do well and help this club win promotion.”
