Hatters sign Barrow striker

Money gets his man as Walker agrees to join

STRIKER Jason Walker was unveiled as Town’s second signing in just over a week at Kenilworth Road last night, writes Mark Wood.

The 26-year-old forward has moved to Kenilworth Road on loan with the move becoming permanent for an undisclosed fee in January – the same deal that brought York City midfielder Alex Lawless to the club.

Barrow-born Walker would have been out of contract in the summer and a number of clubs including Fleetwood Town and York City were believed to have been after his signature. Boss Richard Money said: “We like to keep you on your toes. I hope everyone feels the same way we do. It’s an excellent signing.

“He has 11 goals already this season and I introduced him in the dressing room as our new leading goalscorer and now joint leading scorer.

“We now have three frontline strikers. We’ve waited for weeks to secure this signing. He is the one we’ve wanted ever since Tommy Craddock went to Oxford.

“We identified him in the summer and have finally been able to get him and I’m sure he will be a real asset.

“I think if we are going to win this league we need to keep scoring.

“We will have Jason available for the weekend (at home to Histon), so maybe we will play with eight strikers!”

Walker, 5ft 9ins, has been capped at England C level and was handed shirt number 23.

He has been in prolific form for Barrow this season, scoring 11 in 18 appearances.

During his time at Holker Street he found the net 39 times in 102 games and before that scored 15 times in 88 matches for Morton in Scotland.
