Town captain Sonny Bradley is closing in on a return to training with the Hatters first team squad after being out of action for the last four months, according to manager Rob Edwards.

The 31-year-old suffered a serious knee injury during the goalless draw with Reading on November 1, landing awkwardly on his right leg after going up for an aerial challenge.

He was immediately stretchered off, with TV footage showing just how severe an incident it was for the skipper, who has played just 12 times for the Hatters this season.

Edwards opted against bolstering his central defensive ranks during the transfer window, meaning Bradley will add greater competition to the back-line when he is fully fit once more, which is now on the horizon, the Luton manager saying: “He’s out on the grass, he’s not trained with the boys yet, but he’s progressing nicely.

"I don’t want to put too much pressure on him at the moment, but he’s out there now.

"He’s running, he’s kicking balls, he’s moving in different directions, so he’s getting closer and closer.”
