Hayrettin hails ‘outstanding’ Drury

The 31-year-old, who is in his second spell at the club, gave easily his best performance since returning in the summer, particularly during the second half when his undoubted quality on the ball shone through.

Hayrettin said: “I thought Dukes was outstanding, he was unstoppable out there.

“When he’s in that position for us and he’s on form, he’s a class act and he showed that.

“Other people have got to work hard to give him that ball, lets take nothing away from the rest of the boys, they worked very hard collectively.

“One of our strengths is we push teams back and drive them on, but the two midfield players in there did well.

“When he (Drury) gets the ball he can make things happen and he worked very hard without the ball too.

“Sometimes it’s how good a player you are when you haven’t got the ball and I thought Dukes was just as good when he didn’t have it.”

Drury, who has now started the last five league games, believes he was back to somewhere like his best too as he said: “I feel like I’m getting fit now. I felt like I was playing well early on in the season and then came out of the team for a month or so.

“It always takes me a few games to get back in my stride, I enjoyed it out there and think I can build on it.”

Meanwhile, team-mate Jake Howells wasn’t surprised by the quality on display from Drury as he had seen that first hand during his stint at Kenilworth Road.

He added: “I thought Dukes was unbelievable and showed what class he had.

“When he was here before I know for myself what ability he had and that’s why he got his move (to Ipswich).

“He showed the quality he has and I think he deserved to get good recognition again.”
