The hosts found themselves trailing 2-0 after just 29 minutes as Jack Redshaw and Laurence Wilson were on target.

However, Cameron McGeehan reduced arrears before half time and then sub Alex Lawless made it 2-2 with 14 minutes remaining.

The Shrimps were then reduced to 10 men as Andrew Fleming was shown a second yellow card, but Morecambe won it late on when Kevin Ellison’s cross was turned into his own net by Luke Wilkinson.

Captain Steve McNulty said: “It’s a hard pill to swallow, but it’s the same story, we’re not starting too well and we’re conceding goals, which we weren’t doing at the start of the season.

“It’s unlike us but we’ve worked hard to get back in the game at 2-2 and we gave another stupid goal away. It’s disappointing, but the buck has got to stop with the lads.”
