Luton host Liverpool in a Premier League fixture at Kenilworth Road this afternoon, the hotly-anticipated fixture part of Sky Sports’ Super Sunday programme, kicking off at 4.30pm.
Over the years, a handful of players have represented both clubs, and the Luton News has found 10 who have done so in this gallery below.
5. Richard Money
After starting out at Lowestoft Town and then moving to Fulham, the defender was snapped up by Liverpool for £333,333 in 1980. Despite helping the Reds win the European Cup in 1981, he found first team opportunities limited at Anfield and moved to Luton in 1982. Played 49 times for the Hatters, scoring once, as Town stayed in the top flight, heading to Portsmouth in August 1983. Was back at Kenilworth Road as manager from October 2009 to March 2011, losing in the Conference play-off semi-final to York City. Photo: Hatters Heritage
6. Peter Platt
Goalkeeper joined Liverpool from Blackburn Rovers in 1902, playing 44 times for the Reds until moving to Luton two years later. Made 184 appearances for the Hatters, even scoring in that time as well, a penalty in the 2-1 Western League win at Leyton. Headed to Nuneaton in 1909, but sadly died in 1922 at the age of 38. 7. Lloyd Jones
Signed by Liverpool for £150,000 from Plymouth Argyle in May 2011, the centre half was a regular for the Reds' U21 squad and was named on the bench for the 3-1 Premier League win at Fulham in July 2013. Didn't ever feature for the first team though and after a number of loan moves away from Anfield, Jones eventually joined Luton on a permanent basis in 2018, as he went on to play 14 times for the Hatters, scoring once. Released in 2020, he went to Cambridge and is now at Charlton Athletic after a summer transfer to the Valley. Photo: Dan Mullan
8. Alan Harper
Came through at Liverpool, but didn't earn a first team outing, signing for Merseyside rivals Everton for £100,000 in 1983. Won the FA Cup in 1984 when beating Watford 2-0, plus the Division One title in 1987. Moved to Sheffield Wednesday for £275,000 as he had spells at Manchester City and Everton again, joining Luton in 1992. Spent a year at Kenilworth Road, playing 48 games and scoring one goal, moving to Burnley in 1994 where he finished his playing career. Photo: Hatters Heritage
