Lawless and Pelly to miss Dons trip

Hatters will once again be without midfield duo Alex Lawless and Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu for Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.

Although Lawless completed 90 minutes for the development squad on Tuesday, he isn’t in contention yet, while Ruddock Mpanzu will return to training on Monday.

Still said: “Alex Lawless was a real plus as he played 90 and was comfortable, but he probably needs another development game.

“Pelly picked up something so stupid the other day and its held him up for week, so not for Saturday, but he’ll be back in training on Monday, so there’s no issues with that.”

Luke Guttridge and Cameron McGeehan area available though, while Paul Benson could be back in the next fortnight and recent signing Ryan Hall is gaining valuable fitness.

Steve McNulty and Luke Wilinson remain suspended though, with Nathan Doyle missing through injury as Still continued: “Gutts came on the other night and he’s probably ready to be involved.

“Benno’s back in training, he needs to play a couple of development games, so they’re all on the cusp of being ready which is good.

“We’re building up the fitness levels of Ryan Hall too. He came in and hadn’t had a lot of football. We really, really like Ryan and think he’s going to have an important part to play.

“It will be good when we get everyone back as that’s when decisions have to be made.”

Luke Rooney is also back from his hernia operation and is another who played in the reserves during the week as Still said: “He’s training and is going to need another game next week then we can look to push him on as well.

“In my mind, until they’re ready to play, I look at them in training and make sure that we’re doing the right thing, but he’s not in my thoughts at the moment.

“They’ll be in my thoughts when I look at him and say he’s ready to be included.”

Both Andy Parry and Ross Lafayette were on the bench during Hatters’ 1-0 defeat at Mansfield on Tuesday night as Still said: “When I looked at the team that played on Tuesday in the development game, I could have put Alex Wall on the bench and played Ross Lafayette in that, but Ross has played a few games at Woking, so I thought maybe his fitness levels would be touch higher than Alex.

“But he (Wall) got another 90 minutes as I didn’t want people to travel and miss out on something that would be important.

“We had to go with Parry, as we had no other centre halves, so him coming back was a plus.

“It was just a matter of juggling about a bit.”

Meanwhile, on Curtley Williams and Paul Connolly, Still added: “Curtley’s back and he’s training, but only training within himself, no contact stuff yet.

“Paul Connolly played 90 (for the reserves). He needs quite a little bit as he’s been out for a long time.”
