Lawless urges Hatters fans to remain positive

The 29-year-old, who brought Town level at 2-2 with his second goal of the season, and is starting to get back to full fitness after a campaign dogged by injury, said: “We’re not in their position, but from our point of view, we feel that we’re in a position to go on and still do good things.

“You want to stay positive, but things like that happen.

“It’s not a majority and the way the game went, it was there to make people highly frustrated.

“The way it all changed so quickly, equalising, missing chances and conceding, that’s how things boil up.

“But Macca, he’s our leader, he’s going to stick up for us and the only way we’re going to get through it is when we all support each other.

“I think it will happen as the support we have week in week out is phenomenal.

“You see how frustrated the fans can get, so are we, it’s highly, highly frustrating.

“But we’ve got to be professional about it and now it’s up to us to bounce back as we’re in the position to do something about it.”

Meanwhile, Lawless, who is Town’s third longest serving player currently, having made 166 appearances since joining in November 2010, wasn’t completely shocked by the criticism but admitted the players will give their all to prove any doubters wrong.

He added: “It doesn’t surprise me because when we’ve had such a good run of home wins over the last 18 months, and we had promotion, the expectation is there to keep that up.

“So when it doesn’t happen, it’s human nature for it to feel new again.

“That’s where the frustration is coming from, but we’ll work hard to make sure those people are happy.”
