Lee hopes to be fit to face Cobblers

The two-goal forward was caught late on by a horribly cynical challenge from Sam Saunders, who was fortunate only to receive a yellow card and had to be replaced by Mark Cullen.

Speaking afterwards, Lee, who saw his loan stint at Southend ended after a day due to a hamstring injury earlier in the season, said: “We’re going to have to see, he’s hit me good and I’ve landed and opened up my hip flexor, so we’ll see how it settles down.

“Hopefully it’s nothing too serious as it would be really frustrating, so fingers crossed.”

Lee was selected alongside the fit-again Paul Benson for the first time, with the pair giving a hugely promising display despite the 3-2 defeat.

He continued: “It’s the first time I’ve played upfront with Paul from the start, he’s really good, a really experienced striker and I’m learning things every day from him.

“He always gives me advice and it was great to play upfront with him.”

Meanwhile, Benson himself was also highly complimentary about the West Ham youngster as he said: “He looked, certainly, a level above this and he’ll do well for himself in the game.

“He’s a very good player and he listens as well to any advice you want to give to him. He’s technically a very good player and he scored two good goals.

“He’s unlucky not to have had another one and got a hat-trick. He was the shining light.”

Boss John Still was of the same opinion too, adding: “Both Elliot and Paul did really well and the two of them looked a good pair.”
