Luton travel to old foes Watford on Sunday, looking to end their long wait for a league victory at Vicarage Road.
Although the Hatters triumphed in a League Cup tie back in 2006, they have drawn four of their last five trips, unable to claim all three points since September 17, 1994, when triumphing 4-2 in a new Division One clash.
That day, almost 30 years ago now, Town trailed 1-0 early on, before Scott Oakes, Kerry Dixon and Paul Telfer’s brace saw the visitors hit back to run out handsome winners.
The Luton News takes a look at just who was in the Hatters side that day below.
1. Juergen Sommer
American keeper was Luton’s number one for the majority of the season, playing 37 times. Few handling issues in the first half of the game at Vicarage Road, although given little chance by both the Hornets goals. Made a good save from Mooney in the second period. Photo: Hatters Heritage
2. Julian James
Full back couldn’t quite reach Moralee with a last-ditch sliding challenge as the forward went through to put the hosts in front. However, with Luton then 4-2 ahead themselves, he came close to a fifth, seeing a downward header from Preece’s free kick well saved by Digweed. Photo: Hatters Heritage
3. Marvin Johnson
Defender was a mainstay of the Hatters side that term, playing all 46 league games for Town. Having come through the ranks at Kenilworth Road, this was one victory that would have meant even more to the popular one-club man. Photo: Shaun Botterill
4. Gary Waddock
Didn’t feature in the first five games of the season, but once in the team there was very little displacing him, going on to feature heavily for the Hatters over the next four years, eventually becoming club captain. Photo: Hatters Heritage
