Luton chief Nathan Jones admitted he had given former boss Graeme Jones a ‘glowing insight’ into the club before he took over as manager last year.

The former Wigan and Swansea assistant was appointed in charge of the Hatters in May 2019 after Jones himself had left the club five months earlier, moving to Stoke City, and Mick Harford had gone on to navigate Luton to the Championship.

He didn't complete 12 months in charge though, leaving by mutual consent after the country went into lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic in April, with Town bottom of the table, Nathan Jones replacing him a few months later and performing a miracle to lead the club to safety.

With Graeme Jones now at today’s opponents Bournemouth, named first team coach in August, he makes a first return to Kenilworth Road this afternoon when the two sides meet in the Championship.

The current Town boss said: “I know Graeme well and we all have spells in football which things don’t quite go as we would like them, I’ve had those spells myself, but it will good to see him.

"I spoke to him about the Luton job before he took it and gave him a glowing insight into the club, the players and everything.

"That's football, if I go back to Stoke I don’t go back there with massive bitterness, I go back there and think it was a learning curve for me.

"Whatever Graeme did I can’t second guess, but it will be good to see him, good to see Jason Tindall (Cherries manager), I know those and all the staff at Bournemouth too.”
