Luton boss Nathan Jones has revealed that midfielder Eunan O’Kane has suffered another setback in his bid to return from injury for the Hatters.

The 30-year-old joined on an 18-month loan deal from Leeds United in the January transfer window despite still recovering from the double leg break which ended his first loan spell at Kenilworth Road back in September 2018.

He hasn't played competitively since, although two cameos in pre-season had begun to raise hopes of his availability in the not too distant future.

However, Jones poured cold water on those chances last week, stating that O’Kane wouldn't be ready ‘any time soon’ and that appears to now be some way off, as the Town chief said yesterday: “Eunan is a long-term process because it’s not just about recovering from an injury, it’s about putting enough work into him that he can handle the intensity of training, games and Championship games.

“Eunan’s a while off. He’s had a little setback with an injury the other day, so we have to reassess.

"It’s an ongoing thing but there’ll be no rushing.

“Eunan will be consulted on all our decisions, because there are massive barriers to come over, physical ones, psychological ones, when you’ve had a bad injury.

“He’s a brave lad and we really like him here, so whatever he needs, we’ll give him.”
