Mariners relishing trip to Kenilworth Road

JOINT Grimsby manager Rob Scott says his team is relishing the chance to pit their wits against high-flying Luton Town tomorrow.

Having beaten the Mariners 1-0 in front of the live television cameras in October, Gary Brabin’s men will be looking to complete a league double over their opponents, who have only won in 10 of the games with the seven teams above them in the table.

Scott said: “I think our lads relish playing in front of bigger crowds; that’s what they want to do as professional footballers.

“You want to test yourself against big teams and better teams like Luton; we certainly do as managers.

“This league can be a major culture shock against some of the smaller sides like Hayes.

“That’s where some of the former league clubs have fallen down at this level.

“The lads we have now are very professional and approach each game the same whether it’s in front of 400 at Hayes & Yeading or 6,000 at Luton.

“Luton came to our place in October and beat us and then we went on a great run.

“We don’t know how different they are but I think we have improved a lot since then.”

Grimsby have signed Scunthorpe midfielder Andrew Wright on loan and he comes into the squad, but there are huge doubts over leading scorer Liam Hearn , who has a hamstring strain.

Midfielder Frankie Artus is recovering from an ankle knock, while Anthony Church is suspended as Scott added: “Luton are having a tough time at the minute but that may spur them on.

“We saw how York rose their game against us and some from their camp said it was the best they had played all season.

“We don’t know how they will go because they can play different ways.

“Their last two results have seen them lose and draw and they have changed things around in those games.

“They have a huge squad, particularly in midfield and up front where they look to change frequently.

“We know the players but we won’t know how they go until we see their team-sheet tomorrow.

“But we’ll be confident going there.”
