McNulty not fretting over Town’s away form

Luton lost 1-0 at Bury on Tuesday night, their third successive away defeat, making it just one win in their last 12 trips.

Town had enjoyed a return of four wins from their opening seven games on the road, and although they entertain Morecambe this weekend, then visit Portsmouth and Newport County.

McNulty said: “I haven’t taken much notice of that.

“We always said if we wanted to be in there, we would have to win all our home games which we do the majority of and pick points up away from home.

“We’re picking the odd point up, not as much as would like, but these (Bury) are going to be up there challenging.

“It’s not as if we’ve come here and disgraced ourselves.”

On the game itself, McNulty admitted his side weren’t anywhere near their best in the first half, although felt they warranted a point for their efforts after the break.

He continued: “We didn’t start too well in the first half.

“They got a foothold in the game for half an hour and then we came into it a little bit more for the last part.

“It’s not anything to do with not trying or anything like that, sometimes things just don’t go for you and clearances are dropping to them.

“I thought we dominated the second half, their keeper has made two or three reallly good saves, so we’re disappointed not to get a point.

“They’re the home team and always going to put us under pressure.

“We’re more disappointed than anyone with our performance in the first half but we’ll come back strong.”

Results elsewhere went against Town though as both Wycombe and Shrewsbury won, meaning Luton once again fell five points away from the top three.

McNulty wasn’t overly fazed though, adding: “We’ll be there giving it our all, we’re going to be staying in that pack and hopefully we’ll get into that top three.

“We’ve got to play teams around us, everyone’s playing each other at this time.

“There’s going to be more ups and downs, it’s going to be a rollercoaster as people are jostling for places.

“There’ll be a lot of position change, going backwards and forwards.

“We’re still right in the pack, still hunting, we know where we want to be and what we want.”
